Hey there streamer! Are you looking to level up your streaming experience? In this blog we will be talking about a few tips and tricks on how to stream to zero chatters! Whether you are just starting out or have been streaming for years, it can feel disheartening to have a quiet chat. Not only that, but you may feel lost or confused on what to do with yourself. While some streamers can get away without talking to the screen, quietly playing your game can create a lackluster viewer experience. These tips may sound a little odd, but hear me out.
Don’t narrate what you are doing:
A lot of new streamers make the mistake of thinking that they need to provide a running commentary of what they are doing in order to engage with their audience. However, this can quickly become boring and off-putting. They can see that your reloading, you don’t necessarily need to announce it to your viewers. Instead, try to focus on talking about more engaging topics you find interesting, that doesn't rely on constant narration. This way, even if you don't have any chatters/viewers, you can still enjoy the experience and share knowledge about a topic/issue you are passionate about.
Narrating while streaming can be unentertaining for new viewers especially, as it doesn’t give them a good picture of your personality and who you are. Pick 5 Streamers that you enjoy watching and take some time to figure out why you enjoy their content. Try to bring those elements into your stream by emulating those 5 streamers. Now that doesn’t mean you should force yourself to act exactly like them. You still want to be yourself and keep your personality because that is the content that will be the easiest, most fun and natural for you to create.
Don’t Just Wing It:
When live streaming, it can be tempting to just wing it and let whatever thoughts come to mind flow out of your mouth. However, you may find that your stream becomes disorganized and scattered as a result. One tip for keeping things cohesive is come up with talking points throughout the week. You can keep a notepad on your phone or desktop to pull up and reference while live. You can also organize your stream in a format that will be easily edited into YouTube videos, shorts, reels, or TikToks!
If you run out of topics that your interested in, talk about why you are doing something rather than narrating what you are doing. Speak out loud your train of consciousness as you play your game, create art, or soak in the hot tub.
Example Instead of “I’m hitting the stone to mine ore with my pickaxe.” Talk about what you want to create with the ore. Your viewers can see your gameplay and know that you are hitting rocks, what they don’t know is your plan to take that ore and make it into weapons for your clan to take on the next holiday event boss!
Practice live streaming when you are offline:
Verbalizing your inner monologue is another great streaming tip! It lets your viewers experience the stream through your thoughts and feelings. This can be practiced off-stream. While doing everyday tasks practice speaking out loud about your train of thought. This will make it feel more natural when you're streaming and allow for a more immersive experience for viewers.
When you are washing the dishes or folding laundry, you can still practice speaking and engaging with an audience. Imagine the conversations you would have with your chatters as you go about your task.
Additionally, incorporating other custom stream elements such as overlays, channel point rewards and widgets can add more interactivity for your viewers. So, while you may be just doing mundane tasks like taking your dinosaur on a walk or waiting to ambush a unsuspecting opponent, use it as an opportunity to improve and enhance your streams appeal to an active audience!
